What is Flyball?

Flyball is a team sport for dogs and their human companions. It is a fast paced relay race consisting of four dogs per team. The dogs are trained to jump four hurdles in a straight line, trigger a "Flyball Box" to shoot out a tennis ball, then run back over all four hurdles with the ball. The first team to get all four of their dogs down to the box and back without errors WINS!  A Flyball Team usually consists of 4-6 dogs with their handlers and one boxloader.

Who are the Denver Speed Demons?

The Denver Speed Demons club formed in 2007.  We were previously part of the DEO Speedwaggin' flyball club.  DEO began training and competing in flyball in 2002 and was one of the oldest and largest clubs in the state.  Due to DEO's rapid growth in Colorado, the group split into five different regional clubs.  The Denver area group is now The Denver Speed Demons.  We compete in NAFA (North American Flyball Association) sanctioned tournaments and put on flyball demonstrations for various groups and events in the Denver area.

Can I play?

We offer training classes at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden Colorado.  Beginner classes are offered on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings depending on the session.  Each training session is four weeks long.  Dogs must be at least one year old to begin training and have basic obedience training.  No agressive dogs are allowed in classes.  If you are interested in training, please contact us for class times and availability.

In our Beginner One session we introduce dogs to Flyball equipment.  We focus on going over the jumps, motivation and retrieving a still ball from a "practice chute".

Beginner Two classes re-emphasize skills learned in the first session and introduces the flyball box and swimmers turns on the box.  Speed and accuracy are also introduced.

Intermediate classes are taught on Friday nights.  These classes prepare dogs and their handlers for racing in tournments.

When a dog is determined to be "tournament ready" they graduate to the Advanced group.  In Advanced practice we work on team drills, strength and conditioning, passing and box drills and fine tuning our racing skills.
